NEWCASTLE NE1 |
City centre enhancement scheme.

Working to a design created by Tom Robinson Landscapes, Street Design manufactured and supplied planters, raised walkways and ramps for a scheme for Grey Street on behalf of NE1 Limited. The scheme was to generate interest for retailers and businesses in the centre of Newcastle and to promote Newcastle as a good place to do business. The landscape scheme created tree planters, raised lawns, raised shrub parterre and raised walkways with ramps. Grenadier planters were specified with the addition of mild steel laser cut panels fixed 50mm from the face of the planters. The laser cut panels incorporated scroll designs, taken from the buildings on Grey Street and poems on the planters surrounding the raised lawns. The scheme will be set up in Grey Street, between June and August each year and will be kept in storage until required.

Special linear seating in FSC iroko hardwood and galvanised steel - Aldgate Park, London.
For this project, Street Design worked in conjunction with the landscape design company and the contractor, to develop the outdoor seating for a new public park created in Aldgate, London. The design concept was to create a very long, linear, angular seat that stretched from one end of the park to the other. The overall length was 116 metres, with small breaks in the seat to allow access to the adjoining building. The scheme included low level, co-ordinated return walls. The walls were manufactured as part of the seat ends and when installed, enclosed the planting behind the seat. The planters had stained skirting boards that allowed the landscape contractor to bring the loose fill surface material up to the planter resulting in a neat and practical solution.

EDEN PROJECT |
Special design planters with inner planting trays for The Eden Project
As designers and manufacturers, Street Design was asked to design, manufacture and supply planters to the Eden Project in Cornwall.

The brief was to create circular and rectangular planters that incorporated removable inner planter trays and specimen plants in circular pots. The inner trays were to allow the staff at the Eden Project to plant new trays in the greenhouse, developing the plants before removing the existing trays in the planters and replacing them with the newly planted trays. Due to the shapes that were required, Street Design recommended the Swithland vertical board planter should be used for the scheme. They were manufactured in Red Cedar, the clients’ specified material.

The Red Cedar slats were bolted to an internal mild steel frame. The frame incorporated a raised base to support the planting trays. The Red Cedar slats were left natural, eventually turning a light, silver-grey colour. The planting trays were manufactured from coated sheet steel and were detailed to allow precise positioning of the shallow trays and the deeper circular pots.
