Planters with Plant Lighting
s

s

We call this "plant lighting" because the lighting array is positioned down at planting level. Four LED lighting battens are fixed to the inside edges at the top of the planter. The lights are angled up and illuminate the underside of the flora, a striking and unusual effect. Fortunately, the plants don't seem to mind. The coloured plant light is still noticeable despite the intense white light angled down onto the planter.

The planter below is decidedly under-employed - it contains just one of our tiny privet bushes. It does show the principle of "plant lighting" quite well. The bars of light are plainly visible, their job is to illuminate anything growing close to the surface of the planter.

The pictures below show the difference between "plant lighting" and "up lighting".

The under-employed planter can also show the effect of using coloured lighting on once-green privet. Plant lighting doesn't use lenses, so the effect is only noticeable within a few hundred millimeters of the top of the planter. To illuminate large bushes and trees effectively requires "up lighting", focused emitters with narrow-angle lenses, able to reach several meters above the planter.
